Chemistry may be defined as the science that deals with the composition and structure of matter and the forces that hold the structures together.
It is the aspect of science that probes into the principles governing changes that matter undergoes. Scientists who study chemistry and use it to improve our lives are called chemist.
There are three main branches of chemistry
- Physical
- Inorganic
- Organic
SCIENTIFIC METHOD
Scientific method is a way of studying a problem using scientific approach. It involves the following
- Observation: This is a certain pattern happening around the environment.
- Hypothesis: This is a reasonable explanation (guesses) put forward by a scientist when a certain pattern is observed.
- Experiment: It is designed to test the hypothesis and the results are recorded. The experiment is carried out repeatedly in order to be sure whether the hypothesis is true or false.
- Theory: This is made when hypothesis that has been tested and proven correct.
- Scientific law or principle: It is established after a theory has been repeated and proven true without any exception.
