The Meaning of Emergency Period
Emergency periods are times of uncertainty and tension and unplanned events which affect human rights. During such periods, security operatives are brought into the affected areas and their presence can sometimes be quite unpleasant. Those that assist victims of a disaster will equally be present such as Red Cross society. As a matter of fact, numerous things tend to happen during emergency periods.
Things that Happen During Emergency Period
The following things usually happen during emergency periods:
- During such period, there is restriction of movement
- There is the tendency of imposition of curfew
- There will be lack of freedom of speech
- There will be obvious breakdown of law.
- There will be increase in crime rate
- There will be increase in the number of refugees, because many people will flee their homes to other towns or locations.
- There will be outbreak of diseases such as cholera as a result of poor sanitary conditions of most of the refugee camps.
