ALLOCATION OF MARKS: 2½ marks each = 5 marks

1. (a) What is national values?

  • National Values can be defined as a representation of the paramount value upheld throughout the common cultural experience of the nation.
  • It can also be defined as the accepted principles or standards of a group of people.
  • A personal measure of worth, such as how important an individual considers certain things; beliefs, principles or ideas people attach to things based on their sense of values.
  • Values are standards, rules and criteria that influence and determine how the individual should behave in a society.

(Any correct definition of national values = 2 marks)

1. (b) List three (3) positive values in our society today.

  • Consistency
  • Trust
  • Tolerance
  • Fairness
  • Integrity
  • Commitment
  • Honesty

(½ mark for a point = 1½ marks)
