Meaning of Conflict
Conflict is the absence of tranquility. It is a situation in which people, groups, communities or countries are involved in serious disagreement. The disagreement or controversy often results in crises and its accompanying violent destruction of lives and properties. It is an ill wind that blows no good to anybody. Because nothing good comes from conflict, it needs to be quickly resolved anytime it rears its ugly head.
Skills for Resolving Inter-communal Conflicts
Conflict is an unavoidable reality in inter-communal relationships. Therefore everyone must be equipped with the necessary skills required to prevent a recurrence of conflicts. These skills includes:
(i) Mediation: This is a process where a third party intervenes between two or more communities having issues with the aim of resolving their differences on the issues in order to prevent violence.
(ii) Compensation: This is made to aggrieved people by individuals, groups or government. It is usually in cash or kind.
