Meaning of Speech

A speech is a formal address, delivered to an audience, that seeks to convince, persuade, inspire or inform. From historic moments to the present day, the English language has given us some extraordinary examples of the spoken word. A powerful tool in the right – or wrong – hands, spoken English can, and has, changed the world.

Meaning of Formal Speech

A formal speech is an address made to an organized audience in an organized setting. Speeches can be written or oral. A formal speech is official in tone and address is used mainly in formal situations. The subject matter, audience and setting make the difference between formal and informal speeches.
