The Dangers of Political Apathy

Some of the dangers of political apathy are:

  1. It is a threat to democracy. Political apathy threatens the survival of democracy not just in Nigeria but in the other parts of the world.
  2. It gives the wrong people access to power due to lack of participation of the electorates.
  3. It reduces the level of political participation. This in turn affects the entire democratic process.
  4. It encourages corruption because only few people come out to vote and those who would have made things right are indifferent about political activities. Thus bribery and all sorts of political vices will be the order of the day.
  5. It leads to loss of confidence and trust in government and this further leads to the frustration of the political system and structures.
  6. It leads to lack of accountability because people who should help in checking the excesses of governance are indifferent.
