MEANING OF DRUG, DRUG USE AND DRUG/SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Drug: A  drug is  any  substance  that  causes  physical  or  mental  changes  in  the  body.  It can also be defined as medicine or any substance that is used as medicine. A  drug  can  also  be  defined  as  a  substance  that  affects  the  function of  the  body  or  mind  when  taken  into  the  body  or  when applied on the  surface  of the body.

Over-the-Counter Drugs: Some  drugs  are  readily  available  and  are  sold  over, OTC,  the  counter  as  home  remedies. These are called OTC Drugs. Most  drugs, however, are subject  to  some  control  for  the  protection  of  health  and  the  promotion  of  well-being. These  drugs  are  available  only  when  administered  under  the  direction  of  physician.

Medical drugs are drugs for healing and preventing sickness e.g. Paracetamol, Chloroquine, etc. Hard drugs are drugs that negatively alter the body system.

Hard drugs are drugs or substances that are strong, dangerous and causes dependency (addiction) by the users.
