The Meaning of the Rule of Law
The rule of law is a democratic principle which entails the supremacy of the law on every body irrespective of status or position in the state.
The doctrine of rule of law was popularized by Professor A.V. Dicey in a book, titled “Introduction to the Law of the Constitution”, which he published in 1885. The rule of law can simply be coined as an idea which stipulates that the government which rules should rule in accordance to the statutes of the land or society.
Principles of the Rule of Law
The rule of law is established on some principles which include:
(i) Equality before the law: This implies that all citizens are equal in the eyes of the law.
