Meaning of Music
Music is regarded as the combination of organized sounds. The most important thing in the definition of music is that it must be an organized sound. Sound is the main source of music. However for sound to be regarded as music it must be organized, regular and definite. Noise is the opposite of musical sound. It is produced by irregular and indefinite sound. Another name for noise is raw sound.
Uses of Music
The impact of music in human life cannot be overemphasized. It is used for the following:
- Music is used for social ceremonies such as marriages, birthdays, funerals, graduations, house warming parties, chieftaincy title conferment, etc.
- Music serves as a means of religious worship, for instance, in the churches, mosques, at homes, etc.
- Music serves as a means of celebrating traditional and contemporary festivals, carnivals, namely: New Yam Festival, Argungun Fishing, Eko Carnival, Eyo Festival, etc.
- Music is used during teaching-learning in the classroom by the teachers to teach morals and stimulate interest/ excitements while learning.
