Using Instruction to Sketch the Style
Patterns are body measurements that are developed on paper. The patterns are used to cut out the fabric pieces for a garment.
Instructions required to sketch different styles of clothes from commercial or local patterns are obtained from pattern symbols.

Making the Garment Using a Pattern
- Lay out every pattern piece.
- Place fabric correctly on pattern with enough seam allowances. Pin fabric to pattern.
- Cut out the material.
- Mark darts, tucks, stitches and gathers.
- Remove pins.
- Put the dress together by tacking the center front and back.
- Work the gathers.
- Tack the lower part of the bodice to the yoke.
- Tack the shoulder seams and the side seams of the bodice.
- Fit, and pin any alteration.
- Stitch darts or yokes, press open the seams.
