ASPECT: Speech Work
TOPIC: Introduction to Speech (Organs of Speech)
Description of the Parts of Speech
The organs of speech are the parts of the human body used in speech production. The organs of speech include the lungs, vocal cords, trachea, larynx, velum, soft palate, hard palate, alveolar ridge, nasal cavity, teeth, lips, and tongue.
The process of speech production starts from the lungs which serve as the ‘power house’ from which the air stream flows. The tongue may be described as the most active articulator because it moves and comes in contact with other organs of speech, creating a total or partial obstruction during the production of English consonants.
