Classification by Types
Computers can be classified into three main types: digital, analogue, and hybrid computers.
Digital Computer
Digital computers are the most common type of computer in use today. They excel in processing discrete data through counting. In essence, they measure physical quantities by counting numbers. Digital computers find wide-ranging applications in data processing, powering devices like calculators, digital wristwatches, and digital fuel dispensers.
Analogue Computers
Analogue computers are designed to process continuous data, such as speed, temperature, or heartbeat. They are primarily used in scientific measurements that involve continuous data analysis. Hospitals often employ analogue computers for patient monitoring and diagnostics.
Hybrid Computers
Hybrid computers combine the features of both digital and analogue computers. They are capable of both counting and measuring, making them versatile tools in various applications.
Types of Micro-Computers
Microcomputers come in various sizes, including desktops, laptops, palmtops, and notebooks.
Desktop Computers
Desktop computers are placed on a desk and offer substantial storage capacity and processing speed.
