ALLOCATION OF MARKS: 10 marks each = 30 marks

1. (a) What is data processing?

  • Data processing can be defined as a series of actions or operations that convert or manipulate data into useful information.
  • Data processing is also the recording, analyzing, summarizing, converting, dissemination and dissemination of information.
  • Data processing is a computer program that enables the coding and manipulation of data into useful information.

(1 mark awarded for a correct definition of data processing = 1 mark)

1. (b) Mention the six (6) stages of the data processing cycle.

  • Data gathering
  • Data collection
  • Input stage
  • Processing stage
  • Storage stage
  • Output stage

(1 mark each = 3 marks)

1. (c) State two (2) examples each of primary and secondary storage.

Primary Storage:

  • Random Access Memory (RAM)
  • Read-Only Memory (ROM)

(½ mark each = 1 mark)

Secondary Storage:

  • Hard disk
  • Floppy disk
  • Zip drive
  • Flash drive
  • DVD
  • CD, etc.
