ALLOCATION OF MARKS: 5 marks each = 10 marks. 10 ÷ 2 = 5 marks
1. (a) What are early counting devices?
Early counting devices are those devices that were used in the early days to carry out simple arithmetic operations.
(2 marks)
1. (b) Mention three (3) disadvantages of the early counting devices.
- Many mistakes were often made when the device was used for counting due to human error.
- They could not be used for counting large numbers efficiently.
- They could be very boring and tiresome.
- The device could not be used to compute complex operations.
- They were bulky, cumbersome, and not convenient to carry about.
(Any three points at 1 mark each = 3 marks)

2. (a) In tabular form mention any three (3) electro-mechanical counting devices and their inventors.
