In music what is solo and how do you write a note in line?

Solo in its simplest form is singing or playing the instrument alone or with the other singers or instruments singing or playing at the background.

When a singer is the only person singing, either on the stage or in a recorded track. He or she is a solo singer. There might be instruments backing the song, But as it is the only voice we can hear, that voice is a solo voice.

But in the case of instruments doing solo, there must be a leading instrument that others are backing up for. That instrument will be the dominating instrument, which other instruments are following.
