The Endocrine System
This is a system that help in the secretion of hormones in the body of the animal. They are also known as the ductless glands. Hormones are organic chemical secreted at one point and have effect at other point called the target organs.
We shall limit ourselves to reproductive hormones.
Male Reproductive Hormones
Testosterone or Androgen
Functions of Testosterone or Androgen
- It brings about puberty in male animals.
- It is essential for the secretion of spermatozoa.
- Helps in the development of secondary sexual characteristics in male animals.
- Increases libido or sexual urge in male animals.
- Maintenance of the right conditions for sperm formation.
Female Reproductive Hormones
Oestrogen or Estrogen
This hormone is secreted by the graffian follicle.
Functions of Oestrogen or Estrogen
- Brings about puberty in female animals
- Helps in secretion of ovules (ova)
- Essential for the development of the secondary sexual characteristics in female animals.
