The Unwise Decisions of Solomon and Rehoboam
Solomon’s Unwise Decisions (I Kings 9:15-23; 11: 1-13)
Solomon brought too many building projects on board. He built all these at the same time:
- The Temple
- The Palace
- The Millo
- Wall of Jerusalem
- Rebuilding of Hazor, Megido, Gaza
- Rebuilding of the cities of lower Bethoron, Baalath, Tamar in the wilderness of Judah
- Numerous store cities
- Cities for his horsemen and chariots
- Buildings in Jerusalem, Lebanon and the lands of his dominion
The administrative, material and labour cost of these numerous gigantic building projects were too much for the state to bear. All the descendants of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, whom the Israelites did not utterly kill, were turned into state slaves. All the energies of the slaves were entirely deployed to the building projects.
