Interpreting Information Presented on a Graph
Example 1:
The figure below shows the graph of y against x.
(a) Write down the coordinates of the points A and B
(b) What is the y- intercept of the straight line in the graph above?
(c) Find the coordinate of the point where the graph intersects the x-axis.
(d) Find: (i) x, when y= 2.4 (ii) y, when x = 1.2.
Solution:
(a) The coordinates of A = (1, 2) and B = (3, 0). The first value is for x while the second is for y, i.e.,(x, y).
(b) The y-intercept is the value of y the point the straight line intersects (cuts) the y-axis.
y-intercept = 3
c) The graph intersects the x-axis at point B = (3, 0).
