Meaning of Manufacturing Industry
Manufacturing industry is defined as the turning of raw materials into new products by mechanical or chemical processes at home (cottage) or industry.
Classification of Industries
Industries are of three (3) different types namely: (i) Primary (ii) Secondary (iii) Tertiary industries.
1. Primary Industries
These are those industries which involve in extraction (removing) of raw materials provided by nature, e.g. mining, fishing, lumbering, farming and livestock production. It is also concerned with the production of raw materials such as cotton, rubber, palm oil, cocoa and others for the secondary industry
2. Secondary Industries
They are industries that specialises in the production of raw materials that have been primarily processed by other industries.
