Types of Settlement Interactions

There is always interaction between settlements, since functions differ between one settlement and another. These interactions are the communication links, and inter dependence between the settlements based on functions.

1. Market Towns:

These are basically trading towns based on commerce. They are collection and distribution centres of local products e.g. Accra, Kumasi (Ghana) Lagos, Kano, Onitsha (Nigeria)

2. Industrial Towns:

These are towns that are primarily concerned with the processing of raw materials into manufactured goods e.g. Lagos (Nigeria) Ruhr (Germany) Pittsburgh (USA).

3. Commercial Towns:

These are countries of commerce and finance where trade is the primary concern. There are established facilities for banking, insurance and other commercial interests e.g. Lagos, New York and Zurich.

4. Administrative Towns:

These are headquarters of government and they are the capital cities or centres of local administration. They deal with the organization and administration of the nation or of a division within the country e.g.
