TOPIC: Consonant Sounds /k/, /g/, /f/ and /v/

Consonant Sound /k/

This is a voiceless velar plosive sound. It has many spelling symbols as shown below:

‘k’   as in king, keg, kite

‘c’    as in cat, coat, coffee, cocoa, carrot, car

‘cc’   as in account, accountant, accommodation

‘ch’   as in chemical, mechanic, chemistry, chemist

‘q’     as in liquor, liquid

‘ck’   as in black, back, snacks

‘x’   as in  anxious, six, axe

NOTE: /k/ is silent in the following words, therefore it should not be pronounced. E.g. know, knowledge, knife, knock, knew, etc.
