CAUSES OF DRUG ABUSE
Causes of drug abuse include the following, among others:
- Self-Medication: This is when people take drugs on their own without prescription by medical practitioner. This can have adverse effects on the health of the users.
- Ignorance: this is when people do not have knowledge or information about the effects of the misuse of drugs on their health. Sometimes, people use drugs without reading the instructions provided on the drug. They therefore misuse drugs to their own peril.
- Criminal Intention: People who want commit crime always decide to use drugs in order to be bold enough to carry out what they want to do. That is why because many armed robbers and delinquents are drug addicts.
- Isolation and Loneliness: at times, people decide to take drug wrongly when they feel lonely. The use of some drugs wrongly is seen as an escape route by some lonely people to forget their problems.
- Uncontrolled and Exaggerated Advertisement: the enticing ways some manufacturers advertise their drug on mass media and on the street make some people to get involve in the abuse of such drugs.
